Stila order from Haute Look- my first experience with smudge pots!

I can't believe I haven't blogged in a week! I've been reading everyone's blogs, but not commenting much. It's just laziness tbh. Every time Stila comes to Haute Look, I always eyeball the Barbie Loves Stila smudge pots, but I never buy them. So after passing on them the last two or three times, I finally grabbed them when Stila was up on Haute Look a few weeks ago. They were $8 each. I got Cobalt Clutch and Purple Pumps. The packaging on these is so cool, the picture on the lid is the kind that change depending on the angle, if that makes sense. I took a video so you could see the effect, but for some reason Blogger won't let me upload it. It is an AVI file, which it says is compatible, so I'm not sure what the problem is. If someone could help me out, that would be great; I really want you guys to see the neat packaging! Here is the most color accurate picture I could get, so of course Blogger decided to flip it. When I went to Sephora in my town for the first time with my best friend, she wanted a good cream liner and of course I told her to get a smudge pot, even though I've never tried it, since they are held in such high regard. I know she really likes it, so I was kind of disappointed with these- they turn out a lot more sheer than I was expecting, I'd have to go over the line a few times to make it nice and opaque. Are regular smudge pots better quality than these? No flash, color accurate swatches. If you enlarge this picture, you can see how sheer these look. Since I haven't actually used them as liners yet, I can't say much more about these. I am glad I paid only $8 for them, because I would have felt ripped off at the full price of $20. They're both still available on the Stila website. I also got a Stila High Shine Lip Color is shade Louise. I LOVE Stila lip products. I got my Urban Decay order from Haute Look today, so tomorrow I'll show you that too. Urban Decay is my favorite pricey brand, and I have a variety of their products already, would you like to see those as well?

  1. The only smudge pots I've had any luck with was Loreal HiP's. I used my black one to death and had a royal blue color, too. They're dried up and crumbly now, and I haven't replaced them for some reason, but they were my go-to eyeliner for a time.

  2. I love, love, love smudgepots. They are my go-to eyeliners. I have the other one from the Barbie collection, but not the two you ordered. They are beautiful though!

Mine have been around forever and haven't dried out, but I believe you can use a drop or two of Visine to reconstitute if needed.

  3. I have yet to try the smudge pots. I used to have a Stila creme eyeshadow that I loved until it dried up and became useless!

I would loooove to see your UD stuff! I'm posting about Urban Decay tomorrow too. Great minds and all that sort of thing!

  5. Ok, I'm glad I'm not crazy. I got the same two smudge pots that you have now. They are super sheer. Using them as a liner is worthless IMO, you have to go over it too many times. The Makeup Snob likes to use them as eyeshadows, but even that took too much work IMO. I ended up packing a Fyrinnae shade on top of it to make it even. :-/ I haven't touched them in months.

  7. Ohhh that's sad when makeup isn't what it is hyped up to be. I hope you find a fun way to use them :)

  8. Yay for Stila Smudge Pots! I am sure you will love them. They are my HG cream/gel liner and I love how pigmented they are, and they apply very smoothly as well :)

  10. I have purple stilettos and a few mini smudge pots and I agree that they are quite sheer. I have the lip color as well in louise and sarah. they are sheer so I hardly ever wear them.

  11. I find that the one smudge pot I used needed a lot of work but I think that was because of the brush I was using, the actual colour was not sheer at all. Mayeb the special edition one are sheer

  12. I had the exact same problem and ended up using mine almost like a cream eye shadow! It looks good cos the colour is quite striking and doesn't crease (used over my usual Too Faced shadow insurance) but disappointing as a liner.

Love the Stila High Shine Lip Color - it's the perfect natural nude shade! :)

  13. That sucks that they're so sheer :( In my brain I'd only thought to use them as bases anyway :O
