Hey guys! I hope everyone has been doing well! Texas is really great, I love the area and I've found a couple apartments that I'm deciding between. Best of all, there is an Ulta here! I know that's so whatever for some people, but I've never been to an Ulta or a Sephora, so I was really excited to go. It was pretty much the best day of my life... jk but not really, I'm sure you understand ;] I totally hauled on polish while I was there. I've been keeping my nails painted in this week away from work, since I can't have them painted there. Obviously I'm going there again before I leave town, so you'll see haul number 2 in a few days, haha.
I got Ulta polish in "Holiday In Turqs & Caicos", OPI "Jade is the New Black", Orly "Shine", OPI "Ink Suede", and an Ulta basecoat I got for free (BOGO for Ulta polishes right now). I also got that little OPI giftset for free since I spent $17 on OPI. It includes Ink, Rosy Future, and a topcoat. I know you've seen a trillion pictures, but I've been lemming this so long that I don't care- Jade is the New Black :D
This is the only creme polish I have ever loved. I HATE cremes, but this applied like a dream. I love OPI. It is so amazing, even better in person. You've got to get it! Keep having a great week ladies.
I was listening to my beloved Lady Gaga and was inspired to do this look (from the song Vanity). That song is like my theme song, haha. "Nothing's wrong with being just a little bit vain, we need a little pretty cus this country's insane"... so true, Gaga. So true.
What I used:
Nile, by Meow (inner lid)
Abyss, by Detrivore (outer lid, crease)
Train to Nowhere, by The She Space (eyeliner)
Voluminous by L'Oreal mascara
some Max Factor gloss... r.i.p. Max Factor in America ;_;
I love a good old black eye look sometimes. Also, the hoodie I'm wearing is one I thought I ruined because this stupid spot wouldn't come out, and now it's magically gone! \(^o^)/
Annnd I painted my nails with OPI's Russian Navy.
This picture looks exactly how it looks irl, at least to me. There's some purple shimmer, but you can only see it if you do a single coat, and I wanted an actual navy, so I did two coats. I love OPI more than any other polish because of the brush. I am HORRIBLE at painting my nails, and the fat brush makes it easier for me to do an acceptable job.
That title has way too much alliteration for my my taste, haha. First off I wanted to show a picture of OPI's Merry Midnight, my favorite color right now. It is such a unique color, a purple with blue sparkles and red flecks. It's so cool. Since my hand has icky burn marks all over it, here is a link to Grey's blog. This picture captures it perfectly. I managed to succeed today in not making my right hand look like a 5 year old did it, so I'm pretty proud of myself.
I feel like since I'm part of the makeup blogging community now, I should share my thoughts on the Mineral Makeup Mutiny. I think it's great that there is a list out of companies I can trust to take my money for something they worked hard to produce themselves. It also saddens me that there seems to be a need for a website like this. I feel nervous about placing orders lately, because I'm learning how many repackagers there are, and how I've probably lost a good deal of money to them. I consider makeup my art medium, and basically the only thing I really have talent and passion for, and it's upsetting to have to worry about if I'm getting ripped off every time I place an order anywhere.
I was recently googling the names of companies I've ordered from with the word "repackaged" after it. I stumbled upon this entry from the MMM blog. If you scroll down to the comments, you will see the first one is from Christina, owner of Pure Luxe cosmetics. Seeing this really upset me- the way she threatened a legal statement, as has been seen with Orglamix and LimeCrime, is a very poor and juvenile way to run your business, in my opinion. It also upset me because because now I am quite certain (although one can never be 100% positive) that Pure Luxe probably repackages some pigments. I have at least 30 samples from there, and it really pisses me off I spent my money getting what could be jacked up prices on products I could have gotten elsewhere.
Then, while reading this post in Grey's blog yesterday, I saw the pictures of Heavenly Natural's 'Hush a Bye' next to Glamour Doll Eyes' 'Dirty Jeans'. To me these pigments look nearly identical to a color I own from Pure Luxe called 'Galaxy'. I also own many Heavenly Natural Beauty eyeshadows which are also nearly identical to straight pigments. Do I think the owners of these businesses make some completely unique eyeshadow products? Yes. Do I also think that they are repackaging pigments and not disclaiming it right on the page? Yes. I think, even if you will answer honestly to an email about whether or not you repackage, to not directly state it on your page is being dishonest.
I also emailed the owner of Glittersniffer asking if her products were original. This was 6 days ago and I have still not received a response, which leads me to believe they are indeed not original. And if they are, it's poor customer service to leave an email sitting for so long, especially when she states she will "answer emails pretty quickly".
Sorry for the rant, I'm just pretty bummed I put my money into companies that aren't seeming too honest at this point.
To end on a happier note, here's some kissing anteaters!
Since I was wearing a bright green shirt yesterday, I kept my eye makeup very simple. Unfortunately, the pictures didn't turn out very well, but I hope you can get an idea of the look.
What I Used:
Circle the Moon, by The She Space
Jazzy, by Pure Luxe as my liner
Rimmel London MAXX Lash Mascara
Eyehance! Best I could get, sorry guys :/
Circle the Moon is great, I love it. It's extremely glittery, which made me worry when I swatched it, but it's so classy on the eyes. TSS Pixie Paradise is almost the same color, but it has a different shade of purple as the undertone. Both are gorgeous. Jazzy is also one of my favorite colors EVER. it's a purple blue with all this pink glitter, it's very dramatic and pretty.
Last night as I was painting my toes, I decided I wanted a bright blue, so I resorted to using Sinful Colors Drugstore crap. It was a mistake. It took SO LONG to dry. Then after it finally seemed to have finished, I made the mistake of putting my moccasins on. When I took them off most of the polish on my big toes were in my shoe instead of on my nails. It just reminded me why I typically use OPI/China Glaze now.
Since I was painting my toenails, I decided to go for my nails too. I had to pick a color that hopefully my most devilish of managers wouldn't know I was wearing, so I grabbed OPI's Significant Other Color. It is a VERY sheer purple, very subtle. It has a green shine to it that you can only see when the light hits it a certain way. So it's cute, but hopefully not noticable enough for my managers. ^.^ It's very hard to photograph, so here's a link to Polish Mayhem, the most accurate picture I could find (I adore this blog). It is, however, a lot more sheer than the picture seems.
In a few days, it will be Friday the 13th- a special event not only because it's my boyfriend's 18th birthday (I love you Sam!) but because it is the first time I will be ordering Meow Cosmetics. While I'm not very excited over their permanent colors, I do love their Egyptian Treasures collection, and their Friday the 13th collection. The 13th collection is only available for purchase on Friday the 13th's, so I'm going to order some of both of those collections, and a few permanent colors so I can swatch for you guys. I'm still eagerly awaiting my Fyrinnae order too. :)
All the sports teams at school have been doing really great, so the admins decided to have a school color day. I was going crazy doing blues and whites (gotta love all my She Space blues!) when I got out something I haven't used in a long time. Icing, the brand owned by the same company as Claire's, has a great makeup section, at least at the mall here. I have some of their teriffic bright eyeshadow, glitters, totally neon nail polish, and blue mascara! I absolutely and completely love the blue mascara. Unlike other colored mascaras, it actually shows up, and looks great without being overbearing. The brush isn't the greatest, so what I normally do is apply some of the eyelash primer part of the Maybelline XXL mascara, then put the blue on top.
Here's a picture! Sorry my photos aren't the greatest, I don't have a really nice fancy camera or anything. But I thought this on really showed the color well.
Next time I go to the mall I want to hop over to Icing and get some more of their vibrant shadows and nail polish. I also want to go to Trade Secret to get some more OPI...
I work at Arby's, and employees aren't allowed to wear nail polish since it might chip and get into the food. This rule was made clear to me RIGHT after I bought a ton of OPI and China Glaze. I'll just have to keep my color on my toes for now. T_T I really want to try China Glaze's "Fortune Teller". They actually had it at Sally's Beauty here, but it's all sold out. I also want to try Atlantis, but they didn't have it. I don't know how much new stuff they actually bring into the store.
One brand of polish I hate is Sally Hansen. I got the most gorgeous shade of pink from Target. It reminds me of the 90's. I've only used it once because it takes, no joke, almost 40 minutes to fully dry. It's ridiculous. I just checked on their website to grab a picture of it (the shade is "Flamingo") but the picture they show is a lighter pink, when this is actually a kick-ass bold pinky orange. Does anyone use Sally Hansen and have this same problem?
This is OPI's "I'm Not Really A Waitress". My favorite color of all time! I'm wearing their "Cajun Shrimp" on my toesies right now. It's an orangey pink that actually dries!
Hope everyone is having more nail polish luck than me! :)
