Darling Girl Cosmetics official website has launched!

As you may or may not know, Darling Girl Cosmetics is my very favorite indie company. The owner, Susan, is absolutely wonderful, and Darling Girl has, in my opinion, the absolute best variety of products of ANY indie store out there.

Not only does Darling Girl have the typical fare of indie eyeshadows and glitters, but it also offers Paint Pots, a variety of different formulas of lip balms and glosses, blushes both powder and cream, lotion bars, and more.

I'm really excited that Susan has launched the new Darling Girl website! Run, don't walk, to place an order, because right now there are coupon codes hidden throughout the site! You can also get 15% off with the code GRANDOPENING throughout Monday, April 9th. Perfect timing as the new spring collection has just been released!

I was not asked or compensated in any way to write this post, I just did it because I love Darling Girl so much! I really encourage everyone to try out Susan's products, especially if you are new to indie makeup! I promise you won't be disappointed.

Girl On Fire EOTD

At this point people are probably getting sick of Hunger Games related looks, but I haven't posted mine yet! This is what I wore when I saw Hunger Games for the first time last Friday. I saw it a second time last Sunday. I liked the movie better than the book!

For this look I used Sugarpill's Burning Heart Palette, and Urban Decay's Perversion for the crease. It was all matte, so I put Darling Girl's Shy Violet shadow on top of everything, but it doesn't show up well in the pictures. I'm also wearing a Jemma Kidd liner in the shade Pin Up, and Darling Girl's Pumpkin King lip balm.

I know I just said in my last post I don't wear orange on my lips, but I like this one! It's actually pretty sheer so I feel ok with it. It turned out REALLY orange in the pictures though. Here's the look!

And of course I had to do a side braid in honor of Katniss :) Do you love The Hunger Games right now as much as I do? I just finished Mockingjay and it was so depressing.

11 questions tag

Hello everyone! I was tagged by Blix and Phyrra for the 11 questions tag.

Here are my answers for Phyrra!

1. Are there any colors of eyeshadow or lipstick that you just won't wear? I don't wear orange lipstick, I think it just doesn't look right on me. All eyeshadow is fair game :)

2. What's your latest makeup obsession? Glowy skin for spring/summer, and pinky purple lipsticks.

3. What's your favorite color for spring this year? Green! I only have 1 green shirt, which I just bought, and only a handful of green eyeshadows. I NEED MORE GREEN.

4. Do you have a favorite flower? Lilacs are one of my favorite scents.

5. What’s one product that was hyped up that let you down? The Maybelline Color Tattoo shadows, just because I always get bald spots on my eyelid whenever I use cream shadows or the NYX jumbo pencils. That's why Buxom cream shadows are the only kind I really like, the fluffy mousse texture is totally different and I never get patches!

6. What’s your favorite hair color on you? Brown. :P

7. What's your favorite pet? Cats and chinchillas!

8. What is your favorite genre of book to read? Pretty much anything, fiction or non, except fantasy. Sorry Phyrra :P I like dark books.

9. If you were asked to make your dream makeup or nail polish collection, what would be in it? (colors, finishes, products) How would you name it? I honestly have no idea! Maybe something inspired by Van Gogh paintings, he uses such rich blues and yellows.

10. If you could pick only one foundation to wear, what would it be? Something fancy and expensive, honestly I've only tried a couple foundations so I'm not sure what my favorite kind might be!

11. What’s one makeup item/collection that you skipped that you regret missing? I will never get over not owning MAC's Sweet & Punchy eyeshadow.

And here are my answers for Blix :)

1. Do you prefer liquid or powder foundation and why? Liquid, because powder tends to cake on me.

2. What are you favourite eyeshadow colours to wear? Specifically, Urban Decay's Maui Wowie with any darker purple. That's my favorite eyeshadow combination.

3. Dress and heels, or jeans and sneakers? Either and sneakers.

4. If you could be an animal, what would you be and why? Everybody wants to be a cat, because a cat's the only cat who knows where it's at.

5. What is something that most people don't know about you? I'm obsessed with crossword puzzles and sudoku.

6. What is your favourite flower? SEE ABOVE.

7. Do you like outdoorsy activity? Leaving my room? THE HORROR!

8. How would you describe your sense of style? Lazy. I mostly just wear t-shirts from the mall, or nerdy t-shirts. I just got a job at one of my favorite clothing stores, though, so I really want to use the opportunity to start figuring out what my style is.

9. What type of movies do you love to watch the most? THE HORROR! I like my movies dark, disturbing, and disgusting. I'll watch just about anything though, since movies are my passion outside of makeup. I could do without most comedies.

10. What is your favourite Holiday and why? Halloween, because everything is creepy all month ^_^

11. Why did you start blogging? I really don't know how I started finding out about indie makeup, but I did, and I started reading 3 blogs religiously. 2 are defunct now, and the third was Phyrra's :) I thought it was so cool I wanted to do it myself.

Technically I'm supposed to tag 11 people and write 11 questions of my own for them to answer, but I'd rather jump in the shower so I can go get a burrito. I'm sure everyone can understand the urgency of that :P

Spring Delight FOTD

Recently, Jerry from Silhouette Screams showed me a new video from Michelle Phan called Spring Delight. We both liked the colors she used, but agreed that she blended it all into a muddy mess. Neither of us are fans of hers, no offense intended to those who do enjoy her videos! I wanted to do a look similar to what she did, but without blending all of the vibrant colors into oblivion. I also wanted a very pink & shimmery effect for my cheeks, to look fresh and springy.

What I used:
Hard Candy face primer
Covergirl Natureluxe foundation
Benefit Erase Paste
Maybelline Dream Mousse concealer
theBalm Sexy Mama face powder

MAC blush Dollymix
Maybelline blush/highlighter Champagne Bloom

MAC lipstick Gem of Roses
MAC lipglass Cultureclash

Urban Decay Primer Potion
Fusion of Color shadow Blaze (lid)
Fusion of Color shadow Hottie (crease)
Darling Girl shadow Rainbow Brite (inner lid)
Urban Decay shadow Peace (lower lid)
Urban Decay liner Underground (lid)
MAC liner I Get No Kick (waterline)
Maybelline The Falsies mascara

I'm really proud of this look, it's one of my favorites of anything I've ever done :)

Mellow Yellow FOTD

By now you may have heard of the facebook makeup group, Never Too Much Sparkle- a lot of great bloggers participate in the weekly challenges. This week's theme was 'Mellow Yellow'. Yellow eyeshadows are high up on my favorites list, but I don't use them very often, so I thought this would be a fun challenge to participate in. I don't have close up pictures because it doesn't look all that great close up >.> I messed this up big time and then had to redo it really quickly so I could leave for class. As a result, the crease is kind of wonky and the eyeliner isn't the best. But from farther away we can all imagine it looks really great! I used Canary by Silk Naturals on the lid, with some matte brown from Beauties Factory in the crease. The lip gloss is MAC's Sonoran Rain.

Starfruit Mantis EOTD

Here's a simple spring look I did using Meow Cosmetic's "Starfruit" (inner lid) from the Caribbean collection, and "Mantis" (outer lid) from the Lost Rainforest collection. I also used Make Up Forever's Aqua Liner #4. I'm not sure what lip product I was wearing, but I can see I missed a spot... :p Oops!

Companies I Support

If you're into social networking with the indie beauty blogging community, you might know of some of the drama that's been going on recently and not so recently. If you don't, count yourself lucky! I'm not going to post about it here because it's stupid and pointless, but I thought it would be a good time to post a somewhat reevaluated list of indie companies I can totally and completely stand behind.

There are a lot of companies NOT on this list, and that doesn't necessarily mean they're bad! Some I haven't tried, or I'm unsure of, I haven't ordered from in too long to feel honest about recommending, or any other number of reasons. If you have any specific questions about my views on a particular company, feel free to email me at my NEW address at eyeconicmakeup@gmail.com. So fancy and official!

Indies I Love

Venomous Cosmetics

Right now these are the only companies I can recommend with 100% confidence. Again, if you have any questions, feel free to email me! Hopefully I can try or retry some more indie companies soon and expand the list. :)

Kiss My Sass eyeshadow swatches

Unfortunately I couldn't get natural light for these swatches, it was super cloudy out every day the week I tried to swatch. They still turned out alright, but you can't see how really sparkly some of the shades are.

From left to right: Sandcastle, Champagne, Nude Beach, Hayride

Hayride is so pigmented and pretty, I can't wait to use it in a look!

1st row, left to right: Poison Ivy, Love the Way You Lie, Sailors Kiss
2nd row: Reign Over Me, Firestarter, Broken Hearted

I really wish you could see the shimmer better in these. Sailors Kiss is definitely one of the most beautiful blues I own, it's SO gorgeous and shimmery and just perfect. I also really like Firestarter, which is a yellow with some red shimmer, and Broken Hearted, which is a red with some yellow shimmer.

Here's Tea Rose eyeshadow (I forgot to swatch it with the rest, oops!) and Summer Lovin' lip glaze. Without the flash...

And with flash.

SHABAM! Look at the color shift on that baby! In real life the shimmer has a bit more green to it. I really love the marshmallow scent the lip glaze has, I'm a sucker for anything marshmallow scented.

Everything I've swatched is available from Kiss My Sass Cosmetics.

MAC Gem of Roses Dupe

Gem of Roses, from the Semi-Precious collection released by MAC this last summer, is probably my favorite lipstick of all time. It's the perfect My Lips But Better color for me. The other day at Ulta I spotted what I thought could be a possible dupe, and lucky I had Gem of Roses in my purse to compare! On the left is Gem of Roses, and on the right is Smashbox's Be Legendary lipstick in Primrose.

Houston, we have a dupe! :D I no longer have to fear the suffering I would surely endure once I ran out of Gem of Roses!

I hope this helps anyone else hunting for a Gem of Roses dupe. Smashbox Be Legendary lipsticks cost $19 at Sephora and Ulta.

Kiss My Sass Highlighter Swatches/Thoughts

Some of the many products offered by Kiss My Sass Cosmetics are loose powder highlighters. I already had samples of Pink Horizons and Golden Rays from the amazing Wendi of Makeup Zombie, and I decided to go ahead and order samples of Halo and Glisten as well to have a full set. The highlighters are $1.75 for a 5g jar with 1/4 tsp, or $7.50 for a 10g jar with 2 tsp. Halo is described as "a very sheer white with a soft sheen (gives an extremely sheer "soft-focus" appearance on the skin)". It is extremely sheer, I think it could be mixed with a finishing powder for a really pretty effect. Click on the pictures to enlarge them, you can see the effects so much better that way!
Golden Rays is "a golden shimmer (doesn't apply as "yellow" on skin)". I really like this one, it reminds me of my favorite highlighter from e.l.f. (Gotta Glow)
Pink Horizons is my favorite! It is described as "a light pink shimmer". Simple and true.
Glisten is "peachy nude with a golden shimmer". This is one that seems like it would be good for summer.
At some point I'm going to order a full size of Pink Horizons, and probably Golden Rays as well. Have you tried any of the highlighters from Kiss My Sass? Side note: are these some issues with the new blogger or is it just me? I'm having really weird amounts of line breaks all over the place with this post, and I had to take out some links because they would only show up at the http:// text and not change into a link.

It's been a long time since I came around

...been a long time but I'm back in town!

I haven't blogged in many moons, like 6 months worth of moons. But I have a new camera and a renewed interest in blogging, so I'm excited to say that I'll be returning to the beauty blogging world :)

I'm going to be getting used to the new blogger and tinkering about with my layout, so stuff might look kind of messy for a little while. Bear with me!

I haven't really been reading anyone's blogs while I'm gone, but I want to catch up at least a little. So if you get a bunch of comments on really old posts, they're probably all from me :P Also, I would love to see any awesome blogs that have popped up while I've been away! So if you want to self-promote or promote any other beauty blogs you like to read, feel free to leave me links in the comment section. You can also always reach me via email or twitter @eyeconic_makeup (you do have to send me a follow request though).

I'm glad to be back and I look forward to chatting with everyone! Keep a well-made-up eye out for a new post soon!
