My nail polish collection as of 03/19/11

I've been packing stuff up and haven't really had time to do any looks or swatches, but I wanted to post something before I'm gone for the next few days. I decided to take a couple pictures of my nail polish collection before it got all packed up again. The sad part is I haven't used probably half of these because I bite my nails down so much it would be pointless to even try. I'm making an effort once again to stop the biting, but it's such a habit for me now I don't even notice that I do it. If anyone has any tips that have helped them stop biting, I'd love to hear them. For comparison, here was my collection a little over a year ago. I hope everyone continues to have a good weekend and a good week next week, I'm not sure exactly what day I'm moving back so I probably won't be able to post again until the end of next week.

  1. I love how they're totally in colour order. I think I'm a bit OCD where I have to put things in colour order; or maybe it's just because I think it looks prettier. My polish collection is about that size, but they're mostly cheap brands which I don't mind because they have tons of colours. I use mine pretty frequently because I can never pick one colour, I end up using 2 or more :) lol

  3. Ah I wish I could buy brands like OPI and China Glaze in Germany (OPI is avaiable here but for 16€ a bottle = $22)

I used to bite my nails as a child until I was about 14.
One day I went to the doctor and when he saw my nails he told me that it looks ugly, not ladylike at all and as a young woman I should stop that. And I just stopped XDD Now I'm pretty obsessed about my nails, filing them all the time and putting on nailpolish nearly every day.

  4. So pretty! Looks like your collection has been growing! And I don't paint my nails very often because it chips so fast due to my work. But I always make sure to keep my toes painted!

  5. I am super jealous. I already have a pretty crazy collection of nail polish but it's all in the same color family - red! My roomies love jumping on it but gosh, I love the rainbow of colors you have. Me want!

For me, biting my nails was an oral thing. So whenever I felt the 'itch' to bite, I would gnaw on something or drink tea. You can always do the rubber band trick though. (ie: wear a rubber band and snap it on your wrist whenever you find yourself biting your nails)

  6. HAHA....yeah, as if there isn't enough to be addicted to, throw in nail polish. I'm in the same boat. You have some in there, I'd die for. HAHA

  7. What a gorgeous collection!!

I know that I used to bite my nails, and I stopped, but I don't recall precisely how. I think I just started painting my nails and keeping them painted, rather than "waiting for them to grow out to a pretty length". By the time they got to be a prettier length (well...1/8 inch beyond the nail bed) I'd gotten out of the habit of biting. And then I just kept them clipped, rounded, and painted.

Now the biggest problem I'll have is when one nail peels or splits, and I've got to cut it short - and then I usually will trim the others down so that I don't have one tiny short nail. The longest my nails have ever been is 1/3 an inch beyond the nail bed, and that's quite enough for me. 1/4 inch length is actually about my comfort zone.

  8. Wow that is a lot of nail polish! I wish I could paint my nails, I adore the look of a pretty french manicure or funky colors, but I bite my nails too. I have for years and years, and it's awful. Sometimes I manage to grow them out a little for a few weeks, but then I gradually go back to biting them down again. :(

    Good luck with your move!

  9. Nice polishes! I'm jealous! I am also a nail biter! It sucks, my nails look like crap all the time! When I am finally done my school and licensing exam this may, my goal is to actually take care of my nails and get some Konad plates and do some cool stuff! I find that school makes me bite my nails because I do it unconsciously when I study (you maybe do this too!)

  10. Pretty rainbow! What an awesome collection - I'm really partial to China Glaze XD I love nailpolish, but it must be my application or something, but mine always chips so easily :( Boooo.

  13. @Sophie: My boyfriend helped my set them up! When I have them put away they don't have any order to them.

@Morgaine: I am thinking of getting fake nails so I stop biting, then maybe the real ones will get a chance to regrow.

@Teipu: That's ridiculous! OPI is usually $8-9 a bottle here... if it cost that much I would never buy it.

@The Peach: I like seeing your pedi posts :)

@Lady In a Top Hat: My favorite color is a red, OPI's "I'm Not Really A Waitress". My friends paint their nails whenever they come over too :) That's a really good thought, I'm going to buy some Lifesaver mints and start sucking on those and see if I stop biting!

@Makeup Zombie: I had maybe 7-8 polishes before I started reading polish blogs :P

@LiAnn: I feel like my nails can never get to a pretty length because I just bite them back down, so maybe painting them will discourage the urge to bite. I'm going to paint them tomorrow and see :D

@Emily: I have bitten my nails since as long as I can remember.

@Vulcan Butterfly: I love Konad but I can never do it because my nails are so short! I know I bite my nails when I'm doing schoolwork, I don't notice it as I do it, but I realize it later when I'm down to nubbins.

@internationallyspicy: China Glaze is probably my favorite for sheer amount of colors, but OPI formula is my favorite. Mine always chips fast too, I think we just are hands-on people :)

@tomi: Me too, I buy so many and don't use them!

    @Y: Aww :(
